Alison Wood with her mentor Mike Reece
Congratulations to all the nominees and winners from the inaugural Enterprise Vision Awards (EVA) Ceremony which was held at Ribby Hall in Kirkham on Friday 30 September. The EVA’s were created to specifically recognise those women in Lancashire and Cumbria who are inspiring others by successfully running their own businesses.

Orvia Team at EVAs 2011
The awards were attended by leading business figures from across the region including members of the Orvia team. Two of our customers were nominated for awards: John and Lesley Yates of Canal Boat Cruises were nominated for Small Business of Year, and Alison Wood owner of Legends Gift Shop was nominated and won Retail Business of the Year.
Alison has been participating in Orvia’s Mentoring Programme since July 2010 and is mentored by Mike Reece who is an executive coach.
Alison said: “I must thank Orvia for providing me with Mike Reece as a business mentor. He has been a great help not only in terms of his advice and support, but also as a great sounding board for me to run ideas by! Being a small business with a ‘team’ of one can feel quite isolating so he has been a great strength. I can ring him anytime to talk things through and his experience and qualifications have meant that he gives great advice that I can trust. Not only have I found a great mentor but a true friend and I was honoured that he accompanied me to the Enterprise and Vision award ceremony at which I was presented with my “Retailer of the Year Award”.
Very well done to Alison and all the nominees, especially the winners who were:
Wendy Nissen – Small Business of the Year
Vicky Higham – New Business of the Year
Tracy Irwin – Financial Business of the Year
Kate Gorst – Creative Business of the Year
Natasha Schofield – Professional Services Business of the Year
Rachel Haslam – Training and Coaching Business of the Year
Julie Kline – Health and Beauty Business of the Year
Alison Wood – Retail Business of the Year
Rheagan Hendry – Inspirational Woman of the Year
